The story of Radcliff

Radcliff, Kentucky, owes its existence and growth almost entirely to the presence of Fort Knox, the U.S. Army's gold bullion depository. Initially a small, rural community, the area experienced a surge in population and development following the establishment of Camp Knox (later Fort Knox) in 1918. The town was officially incorporated in 1956, reflecting its burgeoning status as a service and residential center for military personnel and civilian employees of the post. While Radcliff itself doesn't boast centuries of history, its story is intertwined with the broader narrative of American military expansion and the Cold War era, making it a unique example of a community shaped by its proximity to a major military installation.

Radcliff's rapid development is a testament to its strategic location. The presence of Fort Knox has not only provided a stable economic base but also fostered a diverse community with residents from all over the nation and the world. Further cementing its significance, Radcliff experienced tragic events when it was hit by one of the deadliest tornadoes in Kentucky history on April 3, 1974. The devastating storm claimed dozens of lives and caused widespread destruction, serving as a somber reminder of nature's power and the resilience of the community in the face of adversity.
