Lyndon, Kentucky, located in eastern Jefferson County, began as a railroad stop on the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad in the mid-19th century. Originally known as "Fisherville Depot," it evolved into a residential community distinct from the larger Fisherville. The name Lyndon was adopted around 1871, supposedly in honor of a railroad official's daughter. Lyndon's growth was gradual, driven by its proximity to Louisville and its role as a commuter suburb. While not directly involved in major historical events, its development mirrors the broader trend of suburbanization that occurred across America in the late 19th and 20th centuries as railroads and later automobiles made it feasible for people to live outside urban centers and still access jobs and amenities. Lyndon’s location near Oxmoor Farm is important because the farm played an important role in Kentucky agriculture in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
