The story of Jeffersontown

Jeffersontown, Kentucky, boasts a rich history rooted in the late 18th century. Founded in 1797 by Isaac Hite Jr. on land inherited from his father, a Revolutionary War veteran, the town was initially known as Jefferson Town, named in honor of then-Vice President Thomas Jefferson. Its strategic location along major transportation routes contributed to its early growth as a commercial hub for the surrounding agricultural region. The town served as a vital trading post and stagecoach stop, facilitating the movement of goods and people throughout the region, and played a role in the westward expansion of the United States.
