The story of Edmonton

Edmonton, Kentucky, located in the heart of Barren County, holds a rich history deeply intertwined with the agricultural heritage of the region. Founded in 1802, it was named in honor of Edmund Rogers, a prominent local landowner who donated the land for the town's establishment. Edmonton served as the county seat of Barren County until 1898 when the seat was moved to Glasgow. The town's early economy heavily relied on agriculture, particularly tobacco farming, and trade along the Cumberland Trace, an early transportation route connecting Kentucky to Nashville and beyond. The significance of Edmonton lies in its role as a vital service center for the surrounding farming communities, and its unique identity formed from a blend of Southern traditions and strong community bonds.
