The story of Danville

Danville, Kentucky, holds a significant place in the history of the Commonwealth. Founded in 1787, it quickly became a hub for political and intellectual life west of the Appalachian Mountains. Its claim to fame lies in being the location of Kentucky's Constitutional Conventions in the 1780s and early 1790s, culminating in Kentucky's separation from Virginia and its admission to the Union in 1792. These conventions, held in what is now Constitution Square State Historic Site, saw heated debates and ultimately forged the framework for Kentucky's government. Danville's role as the birthplace of Kentucky statehood makes it a crucial stop for anyone interested in the state's origins.
